Conservatives contribute their hard-earned money to the GOP.

More than anybody else, conservatives volunteer to work on GOP campaigns.

Conservatives vote in overwhelming numbers for GOP candidates in every election.

But when conservatives want to run for office, a handful of insiders always seem to conspire behind the scenes to thwart their candidacies.

It happened in Pennsylvania when insiders saved Arlen Specter -- at the last minute -- from certain defeat at the hands of conservative Pat Toomey.

And it’s about to happen in Rhode Island, where Lincoln Chafee -- a left-wing,  vote-with-the-Democrats, who-cares-about-party-loyalty Republican – is about to face a dynamic conservative challenger.

Sick of Chafee’s hard-line leftist votes, Stephen Laffey – the wildly popular conservative mayor of Cranston – let it be known he would run against the out-of-control senator.

As soon as the word got out,  wheeler-dealers within the establishment attacked Laffey, hoping to drive him out of the race.

It's Time To Draw A Line In The Sand.

You know the score. 

As a GrassTopsUSA member you know when our elected officials are making back room deals.  And you know when elected officials are talking out of both sides of their mouths.

There are millions of people who vote for the likes of Lincoln Chafee and Arlen Specter because they erroneously believe that they are conservative.

There are millions of people who would make different decisions if they simply knew the facts before they cast their vote.

That's why we need your help.

We can build grassroots coalitions and raise grassroots leaders in key precincts across the country. 

We can get THE FACTS before the voters prior to election day. 

We can tell the American people which Senators joined the "Gang of Fourteen" and thwarted our efforts to place conservative judges on the federal bench. 

We can tell the America people which Senators DID NOT support the Federal Marriage Amendment.

And we can get that information to the American people when it really counts -- just before they go into the voting booth.

But -- most importantly -- we can send the Washington D.C. establishment a clear message on election day... namely that the American people control the flow of information and the electoral process.

Chafee Routinely Thumbs His Nose At The Conservative Base.

Consider the following facts:

Fact: Chafee betrayed America by joining the “Gang of Fourteen” to protect the right of Democrats to filibuster the President’s judicial appointments.      And as a result, many of President Bush's judicial nominees REMAIN IN LIMBO!

Fact: Chafee didn’t support the President in his reelection bid last year. (Yet he expects Republicans to support him.)  

Fact: Chafee voted against J. Leon Holmes, President Bush’s nominee to be a district judge in Arkansas. 

Fact: In 2004 – along with Teddy Kennedy -- Chafee voted in favor of gun control and against tax cuts. 

Fact: Chafee voted against a bill that made it a felony to kill a fetus during the commission of a crime. 

Fact: Chafee voted to add sexual orientation to the list of hate crimes.

Fact: Chafee’s lifetime conservative rating is only 41 percent – to the left of even Democrats like Ben Nelson.

Chafee thinks people like us are right-wing nuts.  Crazies.  Evil.  He’s utterly contemptuous of the conservative base.  Yet he takes OUR money and OUR votes, without gratitude or loyalty. 

Don't you think ALL of the voters of Rhode Island need to know this information!

Let’s rise up and demand change.

This Isn’t The First Time

This isn’t the first time GOP insiders have scuttled the campaign of a first-rate conservative candidate in a Republican primary.

Remember?  They did the same thing to ensure that liberal Senator Arlen Specter defeated conservative challenger Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania.

Specter is one of the bad guys of the Senate:

He is a consistent and proud supporter of abortion and gay rights.

He was a co-conspirator with Teddy Kennedy to block the court nominees of Republican presidents. 

It was the vicious betrayal of Arlen Specter that  destroyed Robert Bork’s nomination to the Supreme Court and gave us Justice Anthony Kennedy.   In fact, Specter – a left-wing ideologue -- led the fight against Bork. 

Why?  Because he was afraid Bork would vote to reverse Roe v. Wade.   

Then -- when it seemed as if Specter would remain in the Senate forever, voting with liberal Democrats on abortion and gay rights, bashing conservative nominees to the federal bench -- along came Pat Toomey, a young, charismatic conservative -- and Toomey started to gain traction in the polls.

That’s when the money started pouring into Specter’s war chest. 

Some of it came from Democratic leftists like George Soros and Harold Ickes.

Now they intend to do the same thing to Stephen Laffey in Rhode Island.

Don’t let them!

One More Example.

Earlier this year, The Hill, an influential Washington publication, reported that two people were attempting to pressure Florida Congresswoman Katherine Harris to stay out of the upcoming senatorial race.

Can you guess the two people’s names in The Hill article? 

Karl Rove and Elizabeth Dole.

As Congressman Mark Foley, a Harris supporter explained it:

“People plant these little stories attributable to ‘unidentified Republican sources,’ ‘people close to the White House’…You don’t get a phone call, ‘Mark, it’s Karl.’  It’s this subtle parlor game that nobody can put fingerprints on.”

Instead of crawling back into their caves and hibernating, however, Harris supporters refused to be intimidated. 

Several of her fellow-GOP congressmen endorsed her and a poll showed she was leading the pack for the nomination.

But the subtle parlor games aren’t over yet.

Not with Harris.  Not with Laffey.  

It’s time to confront those involved in this on-going conspiracy to thwart the candidacies of conservatives.  It’s time to tell them to back off -- or else!

The Republican Party can’t survive one election without the conservative base. 

If the wise-guys can’t learn that hard truth the easy way, then they’ll have to learn it the hard way – from people like us.

Stephen Laffey is going to need money – lots of it.  That’s somebody else’s problem.

But we’re making the obscene intervention of Washington insiders -- who stifle conservative candidates -- our problem.

As a not-for-profit organization, we do not support political candidates or parties... but we can -- AND WILL -- get the facts to the American voters.

A great student of American politics once said that a democracy is not run by the majority, but by the active minority.

The question is: Will that active minority be a few Washington insiders -- or will it be conservative activists like you and me?

The answer to that question lies in our open hands.

Now is the time to make a fist and tell the party just how we feel.
