Can it be true? Are Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama secretly scheming behind closed doors to sneak government-run health care past the American people in the dark of night?

According to McClatchy Newspapers, "the Obama White House has launched a behind-the-scenes campaign," in an attempt to "quietly," "build support for the public option," and Barack Obama has personally telephoned more than a dozen key lawmakers.

McClatchy tells us that this recent White House initiative is "unfolding largely out of public view" and speaks of a flurry of "private meetings" between congressional staffers and senior White House officials.

Let us not forget, radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh recently warned us of a "secret plan to pass the public option."

And Limbaugh also warned his listeners of the end result:

"[I]n one move the US Congress will take over hospitals, will take over laboratories, will take over the medical profession, will take over the insurance companies. What they are planning … let me point it out to you in an even more understandable fashion. What they are plotting and hope to pull off by next week will make the takeovers of General Motors and Chrysler look like a joke."

With their allies in the liberal media in tow, Obama, Pelosi, Reid and other extreme leftists in the House and Senate blitzed the American people with a deceptive and disgusting public relations campaign that was designed to deceive all of us into thinking that the world would stop spinning without immediate so-called "health care reform."

There's no time to lose... no time to do it right, they essentially told us. "Reforms" were so urgently and desperately needed that they didn't even have the time to read 1,000-plus page bills prior to voting on them.

“You'll just have to trust us,” they said.

But they grossly underestimated the intelligence of the American people... we weren't buying it. We wanted details.

And once the American people saw just a glimpse of what they had in store for us... rationing of care... waiting lines at the doctor's office as long as those at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)... so-called end-of-life counselors who would likely have the raw power and compassion of IRS agents... drastic cuts in existing Medicare benefits... trillions of dollars more in debt ... we said no.

But Obama and Pelosi and Reid just won't take no for an answer and they've already shown us in the past (with the so-called Stimulus Bill and the effective takeover of AIG and General Motors and Chrysler) that if they can't advance their far-left agenda through slick public relations campaigns, they have no problem resorting to procedural shenanigans or back-room deals or chicanery or secrecy and stealth.

And so it goes with Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, who promised the American people unprecedented levels of "transparency" on so many occasions.

Limbaugh said it best: "The Harry Reid, Pelosi, Obama plan comes down to this: The Democrats are scheming against the American people, as they have been all along. The Obama administration, starting with the campaign, was a scheme against the American people and against the traditions and institutions that have defined this country's greatness."

But now that you know what they're up to... you can stop them... right now. If we stick together and keep speaking out, our elected officials will know that when it comes to ObamaCare, "no" means "no."

The Devil Is In The Details.

Brian Darling of The Heritage Foundation recently wrote about a parliamentary trick that Barack Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi could utilize (possibly in a matter of days) to pass ObamaCare through stealth.

“President Obama and liberals in Congress seem intent on passing comprehensive health care reform, even though polls suggest it is unpopular with the American people... the President and left-wing leadership in Congress are determined to pass the measure using a rare parliamentary procedure.”

     Darling adds:

“The Senate plans to attach ObamaCare to a House-passed non-healthcare bill. Ironically, nobody knows what that legislation [will] look like, because it has not yet been written. Yet many members plan to rubber-stamp Obamacare without reading or understanding the bill.”

Essentially what Darling is saying is that Reid is planning on taking the extraordinary step of bringing a health care bill of his own making immediately to the Senate floor which combines measures from the Baucus Senate Finance Committee bill with the bill passed by the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee.

And you can bet your bottom dollar that it won’t be pretty.

Since Reid would move quickly (and most legislators won't bother to read it anyway) he could literally strip the parts of each bill he doesn't like and leave in measures he likes... the public option... the individual mandate… drastic cuts in Medicare benefits for seniors… massive tax increases…

And what happens next? Darling explains:

“Once the Senate passes a bill and sends it to the House, all the House would have to do is pass the bill without changes and President Obama will be presented with his health care reform measure.”

Rush Limbaugh explains what’s happening in a little more detail:

"Here's how they're going to do this: 'The Senate plans to attach Obamacare to a House-passed non-healthcare bill' that has nothing to do with health care. You say, 'Well, Rush, how do they do that?'

"So they've got two bills in the Senate. They got Harkin's bill, they got Baucus' bill, two different committees. Harry Reid is going to take the parts of both of these bills that he likes and merge them, come up with one bill and take it to the Senate floor. Now, after they've got their health care bill to the Senate floor, as you know the House has to do something on this as well. The House health care bill hasn't passed. But there is a bill in the House that's been collecting dust over there that has passed, it's sitting around. The Senate hasn't taken any action on that bill. That is a bill that imposes a tax on bonuses received by certain TARP recipients. That was passed by the House in the wake of the AIG bonus controversy.

"This is all part of the stratagem. What this means is that the entire health care reform effort will be included as an amendment to the TARP bill that has been collecting dust in the Senate for months because the House passed it long ago, the Senate hasn't taken any action on it so Reid is going to merge these two health care bills, attach it to the TARP bill basically as an amendment and then have the TARP bill passed, the bonus bill passed in the Senate."

Reid, with Obama’s assistance, may be crafting the legislation that will spell the end to our health care system as we know it.

The time to speak out is now.

The Leftists Advance While Conservatives Tap Dance.

What is probably most distressing, is that when it comes to ObamaCare, far too many conservatives do not appear to be grounded... appear too willing to cave in the face of this threat.

While leftists advance, too many conservatives are twiddling their thumbs... playing politics-as-usual.

Far too many of them (not all of them thankfully) are bending over backward to appear "fair" and "reasonable." Comity is still the word of the day for them even though the opposition forgot the meaning of the word long ago.

And for some, compromise is still an admirable goal, because, after all... that's just the way things are done... the way the game is played ... Right? ... Wrong.

No good can come from compromising on something that hands over 16 percent of the economy to the federal government… no good can come from the federal government having control over your family’s health care decisions.

And where has this desire to play fair gotten conservatives? Liberals are using it as a weapon against them and making them look weak, wishy-washy, duplicitous and ungrounded.

Here's an example. On Friday, former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist appeared to tell Time Magazine’s Karen Tumulty that he would support health care legislation. Specifically he said he would have ended up "voting for it. As leader, I would take heat for it...That's what leadership is all about."

By Tuesday, Frist was tap dancing, claiming that he had been taken out of context. Frist told CNBC that he meant to say he would vote for a "market-based" bi-partisan bill but said of the proposals presently on the floor of the House and the Senate; "Right now, in the shape that each of those are in, I wouldn't vote for any of them."

"Market-based bi-partisan bill?" ... what's he talking about? When it comes to ObamaCare, that's a contradiction in terms.

It gets even more confusing. Jordan Fabian with The Hill writes:

"Frist, however, insisted that Tumulty's piece 'was exactly right' in that it captured his thoughts on specific provisions of reform legislation like expanding coverage and controlling costs."

     "Exactly right?" ... Several sentences later, Fabian writes;

"Last week, Frist signaled support for a public option 'trigger' that would provide public health insurance if private insurers do not meet certain benchmarks. But he did not address the public option today."

     And finally, as reported by Patricia Zengerle with Reuters;

"Frist later said proposals backed by congressional Democrats would raise taxes and increase insurance premiums and said he would not vote for any of them without major changes."

"Major changes?" Excuse us? The American people are not asking for "major changes" to ObamaCare. The American people want ObamaCare scrapped completely.

Congress must start over with legislation that is truly bipartisan and market-based – legislation that doesn’t put the federal government in control of you and your family’s health care decisions.

Some More Examples... And One Governor Who Has It Right.

Here are a couple more examples from the Zengerle article in Reuters:

"The Obama administration has adopted a new tactic in its push for healthcare reform: touting the support of Republicans.... Seeking to portray opponents of the legislation as isolated from mainstream America and even from prominent members of the Republican Party, the White House on Tuesday distributed a statement from Arnold Schwarzenegger, California's Republican governor, urging the passage of national healthcare reform."

     Zengerle continues:

"On Monday, it [The White House] sent out a statement by Tommy Thompson, a former Republican governor of Wisconsin and presidential candidate who was former President George W. Bush's health secretary, endorsing a plan coming through the Senate Finance Committee."

"'It (the plan) moves us down the path of providing affordable high-quality health care for all and expanding coverage for millions,' said Thompson's statement, issued with Richard Gephardt, a former Democratic leader in Congress."

And what was the Republican reaction?

     Zengerle again:

"Republican leaders said the Republicans' positions were misrepresented by the White House and that they shared the concerns raised by congressional Republicans."

"Misrepresented" ... that's all Republican leaders could say?

Of course, there are some Republicans out there who get it.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal hit the nail squarely on the head in an op-ed piece in the Washington Post:

"[M]emo to Washington: The debate on health care has moved on. Democratic plans for a government takeover are passé. The people don't want it. Believe the polls, the town halls, the voters. Only Democrats in Washington would propose new taxes on businesses and families in the middle of a recession, $900 billion in new spending at a time of record deficits, and increased taxes on health insurance and products to reduce health-care costs."

"Washington is the only place in the country that doesn't realize that this debate is over. Democrats may march forward anyway, but they will do so without the people, and at their own peril.

"But Republicans must shift gears. Conservatives should seize the mantle of reform and lead. Conservatives either genuinely believe that conservative principles will work to solve real- world problems such as health care or they don't. I believe they will.

"The people do not want Republicans to offer their own thousand-page plan to overhaul health care, and that is not what the nation needs."

Every Republican officeholder in the country should heed Jindal's words.

Obama, Reid, Pelosi: Pass The Government-Run Public Option At Any Cost.

The machinations of Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and other leftists in Congress are shameful, and it’s critical to understand that what’s going on in Congress has little or nothing to do with improving – or reducing the cost of – health care.

If it did, Obama and Pelosi and Reid would heed the cries of the majority to kill the bogus “reform.”

It's obviously not “affordable” as it would add trillions to an already-bloated national debt.

As for advancing “health,” most of us already know that it will lead to rationing and denial of care, particularly for the elderly.

Finally, on the matter of “choice,” the public option will lead to fewer choices initially... and no choices eventually.

And is mandating that Americans buy health insurance or pay huge fines part of our country’s best traditions? Of course not.

What people like Reid and Pelosi and Obama don’t understand (or perhaps they do) is that someone who tries to lead without listening to the people is nothing more than a dictator.

We need to demand that all elected officials be resolute – relentless – in doing everything possible to stop this mad rush toward socialized medicine.

     We must act now!
